The Notarial Profession<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The French notary is a public officer who acts on behalf of the French Republic. Notaries are entitled to authenticate<\/strong> and certify deeds for their clients. French notaries are appointed by the Minister of Justice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Authenticity<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Article 1 of the Order of 2 November 1945 states regarding the status of notaries: \u201cNotaries are public officials established to receive all deeds and contracts to which the parties must or wish to give the authenticity attached to acts of public authority.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

By affixing their signature and seal, notaries have the power to authenticate deeds<\/strong>. These deeds then have the same force as a final judgement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
